-
A Boopos Blank is a professionally designed, customizable rod puppet that gives you the working foundation of a puppet so you can skip the tricky engineering and get to the fun part: creating your character.
Each Boopo starts as a durable puppet core with a working jaw mechanism, ready to transform with foam, fur, fabric, clay, papier-mâché and other creative materials. Instead of figuring out mouth plates, mechanisms and basic puppet construction from scratch, you start with the hard part already handled.
You bring the character. We give you a better place to start.
-
Boopos were created to make puppet building more approachable for beginners while still giving experienced makers a solid, performance-ready foundation to build on.
You don't need to know how to engineer a puppet mouth or build a jaw mechanism before you begin. Start with a Boopos Blank and put your energy into the part that makes the character yours—its face, fur, fabric, personality and all the wonderfully weird details you dream up.
And beginners aren't just taking our word for it. One early customer described their Boopo as something that could make “any beginner into a pro,” while other buyers have praised the construction, quality and ease of getting started

A Boopos Blank gives you the professionally built foundation for creating your own rod puppet character, including the puppet core and working jaw mechanism.
Depending on the Boopo you choose, different head shapes give you different starting points for your character. From there, the final look is completely up to you.
The fur, foam, fabric, eyes, hair, clothing and other finishing materials shown on completed Boopos are examples of what you can create and aren't included unless specifically stated on the product page.

That depends on what you want your character to become—and that's part of the fun.
Boopos can be customized using materials such as foam, fur, fleece, fabric, clay, papier-mâché and other craft materials. You may also want eyes, hair, clothing or accessories, along with the appropriate scissors, adhesives and basic crafting tools for the materials you choose.
You don't need every puppet-making supply under the sun. Start with your character idea, choose the materials that fit it, and build from there.
-
Boopos are designed for makers, artists, puppet enthusiasts and creative people who want to build their own character, from first-time builders to experienced puppet makers.
Younger makers can also participate with appropriate adult supervision. Customizing a puppet can involve scissors, adhesives and other craft tools and materials, so the adult should choose the tools and level of involvement appropriate for the child.
Boopos aren't about how old you are or how much experience you have. They're about having an idea and wanting to make it real.
-
There's no single right amount of time to build a Boopo.
A simple character can come together relatively quickly, while a detailed puppet with sculpted features, fur, clothing and accessories can become a much bigger creative project.
That's one of the advantages of starting with a Boopos Blank: the underlying puppet engineering is already done, so you can spend your build time creating the character instead of troubleshooting the mechanism.
-

Yes—and nobody has to sit through another trust fall.
Boopos puppet-building workshops give teams a hands-on creative experience where everyone gets to step away from the screen, make something completely unexpected and leave with a character they created themselves.
Corporate and group puppet-making workshops can work for company outings, creative team-building events, agency teams, conferences, retreats and employee experiences.
Sam also brings a professional fabrication background working with film, television, marketing agencies and event producers, so this isn't your average craft table.

Every Boopos Blank is made by us in Roswell, Georgia. Current Boopos orders ship from Roswell, Georgia, just outside Atlanta.
Boopos grew out of Muelworx, Sam Carter's Atlanta-area fabrication practice, where his work has included puppets, props, set pieces, character design, installations and other one-of-a-kind builds for film, television, agencies and event producers
-
Boopos Blanks were created by Georgia puppet builder and fabricator Sam Carter, founder of Muelworx.
Sam has spent more than 20 years working as a maker and fabricator in Atlanta's film and creative community, building puppets, props, set pieces and unusual things that don't exactly come with an instruction manual.
Boopos grew out of Sam's desire to make puppet building less mysterious and give other makers an easier entrance into the craft. Rather than asking a beginner to engineer a puppet from zero, Sam created a professionally designed blank that lets the maker start with a functioning puppet and concentrate on creating the character.
And the name has a story of its own: “Boopos” comes from Sam's nicknames for his kids—Boo and Pose. Sam describes the name as a reminder of what the project is really about: passing creative skills on to the next generation of makers.
